Recently, the Gawker Network (via Gizmodo and Kotaku) reported that two special edition Zunes are on their way towards both the 2008 Democratic and Republican National Conventions. In its article, Kotaku says a game is potentially on the list of preloaded content. If a game is indeed distributed as part of the preloaded content, one could suppose it means there is at least one "production ready" game for the Zune device. Thinking about the audiences involved (DNC & RNC delegates), one could believe these individuals are the types who do not want to mess around with Visual C# 2008 or CTP's of any type in order to get games on their free Zunes. Although these games come preloaded, this could be an indication of the Zune gaming platform being ready for prime time. Hopefully the rest of us will see this come to pass as a feature of the new software we have coming our way. Holiday 2008 is still the time frame for XNA Game Studio 3.0's release. XNA Game Studio is the downloadable program that allows individuals to build Zune games and release them to the Zune community, of which there are already many titles. Community productions aside (for the moment), official launch titles have a way of bolstering a gaming platform. Wouldn't you love to play Zauri or Bejewled, on your Zune, and add those (and the community's) games to your Zune device through the Zune software?
