Conversation Piece: The Mixview Mixer

by Marques Lyons | 7/06/2009 in |

So, I have a question: Anyone still using mixview? But I mean REALLY use mixview. Like have you discovered new music or new friends recently? I ask because I haven't used it in a while and I thought that over the course of this week, I'd use it once per day. I plan to start on a favorite artist of mine, spend about 2 minutes solidly clicking around and try out the artist(s) that I end up on -- who knows where that could lead.

I'll offer up a report on what I find through strict Mixview use on Saturday, but I wanted you guys to sound off about Mixview: Who (either music or friend) have you discovered through the feature?

Cool idea. I might go ahead and try this too and post what I get also. Should be alot of fun anyways. Good luck with your experiment and I will see you on Saturday with my results too.

Awesome. We'll "trade" notes on Saturday. I'm really wondering where my favorite artists will lead me to.

I like the idea. I actually use mixview a lot and have found some interesting artists and tunes. And a couple of new friends along the way as well.
I like to listen to electric blues and some the artists I have discovered using mixview include, Saffire, Albert King, T-Bone Walker, Roosevelt Sykes to name a few.
Also exploring out side of the electric blues category I have run into groups like, The Beautiful Girls, The Rippingtons, JJ Cale, The Jayhawks, Luka Bloom, Kieran Goss, well I could go on all night. Heck I discovered Fiona Apple through mixview. Most of you probably know these artists but I didn't because I was trapped in the golden oldies comfort zone, until ZMP and mixview came along.
What I like about mixview is its like an onion, there is layer after layer, some of its good some of its stinks, but its a great way to discover new artists. Mixview really opened up a whole new world of music for me, music I never would have discovered had it not been there.

I use it and like it, but I'd like to see an option where it can be selected as an option to automatically come up while a song/album is playing. Additionally, have the ability to make the album cover wall 'hot' during song play. I have over 1200 albums and sometimes get in a rut - but am reminded of albums artists when I see them on the background wall. Wouldn't it be great to just right click and add an album to the now playing list???

I can't say I honestly use it too often. It's not entirely intuitive for me to use, and it seemed more like a "Mac" feature--one that looked cool the first couple times I used it but not really useful after that.

But then again, I don't have a Zune Pass (I have Napster and really like the "automix" button, which I think is superior)

So I did Mixview Monday-Friday of last week but I totally forgot to do a write up about it. I'll try to get that done sometime soon. It was totally interesting (and fun) what I was able to discover.

And hey Matt! You're welcome for the re-introduction of Mixview into your life :-)
