Conversation Piece - And for our next @Zune trick...

I could be in the minority on this, but why does Zune do all of this cool stuff only to turn around and make it disappear without a trace? I understand that Zune Arts was just something initially for marketing with the Zune 30, but I really found that to be an interesting and quirky thing. "The Green Room" was a great video podcast series letting us see some of our favorite artists backstage prior to performances, now that's just gone. Zune Insider blog? Yeah, I'm not kidding when I call it the "Zune Insider Podcast Notification Network". Oh, and Cinemash... I thought that was a fantastic idea, but even that pulled a Criss Angel!

It's almost like I don't want to get attached to something Zune does because of fear it might not be there next week. I mean I understand they might not have the full resources to dedicate to all of these things, but wow I could totally see a page in the Zune Marketplace that was just dedicated to Zune Original content. Maybe Chris Rock was on to something when he made that joke about "Grand Opening. Grand Closing."

So now Zune has introduced some new things: Trailer Vault and The Weekly Download (about podcasts) but how long will it be before we turn around and suddenly those things are gone just as quickly as they arrived? I know that sounds a bit harsh, but given the track record of other Zune-created initiatives, I just had to wonder.

I mean I wasn't kidding when I said that "Green Room" would've made a nice little series to put on the XBOX 360 dashboard under the "Music Marketplace" tab. Zune Insider at least needs to change the copyright year to 2010 before moving on to anything else. How many of us knew that, for example, the KIN team hosted some free concerts over the weekend that included the likes of N.E.R.D.? Yeah, I think that's something that Zune Insider could've mentioned.

Don't get me wrong, here, I love the stuff that they do. In fact, I think the current Zune Insider podcast with Matt and Jessica is good stuff; Trailer Vault is a neat idea if for any other reason then I get to reminisce about the old films and see what's up with the new flicks. What I'm getting at is that Zune has put things out there, getting folks excited, going through with it for a few months and then, without warning, dropping it. I would like to see some of this original programming stick around for a good while. That's all.

Is there any of the old stuff about Zune that you miss? Hell, does anyone even remember Zune Arts?
