Return of Custom #ZuneTune Song Links

If you remember, Marques (the Zune MVP) and Shane (the Zune Team member) started the ZuneTune Revolution over a year ago. However, in one update to Zune.net, individual song links, were removed from Zune Links in favor of links to their albums in the Zune software marketplace. As a result, some of the fun Zune Nation had on Twitter with sharing the music they were playing via Zune was lost. While one could still make #ZuneTune tweets, links to individual songs were no more. Prior to their removal those who would use the #ZuneTune hashtag in their tweets about the song they were playing would use the individual song links to share the exact song they were enjoying. This allowed others to click that song link and play the track in the Zune software marketplace. For Zune users it was a method of song sharing over Twitter. At a point, there was a program that helped you make your own Zune Tune playlists from the tweeted tracks.

Honestly and Im sure Im not alone, I discovered more new music from the old #zunetune playlists than I did from using #smartdjless than a minute ago via twidroid

@Soufjerzz @Zune needs to get #zunetune going again. It was good when they were including them in the Marketplace.less than a minute ago via TweetDeck

As of late there has been some renewed discussion about #ZuneTune and the resulting playlists on twitter. Now, thanks to the the new Bing Entertainment, and its ability to purchase single songs from the Zune Marketplace (as well as iTunes and Amazon), individual song links are back! Building upon Marques’ original steps, below is the new Zune Tune song link procedure. Also note that you can do the same process from your smart phone, so you can tweet what you are playing on the go.

NZT1

1. Visit www.bing.com/music and search for the song you want.

  • If you are having trouble finding the song you are looking for, try adding the artist before the song title, e.g. The Roots A Peace of Light vs. A Peace of Light.

2. Once you find your song, click the buy button. From the dropdown menu, right click on the ‘Zune’ option and (depending on your browser) choose to copy the shortcut/link location/link address.

NZT3

3. Paste the copied link into a URL shortener of your choice, removing the highlighted part from your pasted URL. IMPORTANT If you do not remove the highlighted part, you will end up with a link pointing to Zune.net instead of the Zune software.

4. Add the shortened song link into your tweet, include the song title, artist, #ZuneTune hashtag, and enjoy.

So, Zune Nation, what are you listening to?
